Visiting author: Thelma Eakin

Yesterday T1 and T2 were lucky enough to have "The Mines Afire" author Thelma Eakin. She answered our questions and we had a look at a safety lamp and a copper version of 1 of the miners statue in town. She co write this book with her friend Susan Battye. We are reading this book at the moment, it is very interesting. One interesting thing we learnt was that Mr O'Flynn actually locked the door so the kids couldn't escape, but they managed to escape in the end. We all felt very lucky to have her yesterday.

Reflection Week 5

Reflection- Numeracy

In numeracy this week we were working on what we didn't get right in our diagnostic testing on maths buddy.  I chose to work on equivalent fractions. Next time I could take my time and work slowly. I hope you like what I learnt.

Literacy.
This week in literacy we have been discussing endangered animals. We then had to reflect on the statements on this anticipation chart before we read the text. This is mine. Next time I could explain endangered animals better.  Have a read of the statements and tell me if you disagree or agree.  I will tell you what I find out next week.

This week we have been focusing about the advantages and the disadvantages of plastic. I found it hard knowing my facts but I cracked 15 facts! Next time I could do some more facts. 

Summer reading challenge 2017

Summer Reading Challenge 2017

The summer reading challenge happens in the Grey district were you have to read books over the summer holidays. Another part to it is that you have to visit the Grey District Library two times to complete it. We then get a free book when the term starts. I got the 65 story-tree-house. We also got a certificate for doing it!

This week we have been writing about Shantytown. Our WALT was write a clear and detailed introduction using the 5 W's. I found it hard writing about Shantytown because I haven't been there in ages! Next time I could use better wording for my work.  I also did word work and here is the meanings of my words.

We have been focusing on Christmas activity's. I found it hard doing my "Naughty and Nice" writing. I found it easy doing my poem because I new quite a bit. Next time I could use better wording.

This week I had all my follow ups  and others uploaded and completed by Thursday. I found it hard writing about wisdom teeth. I found it easy writing about the earthquake (Did you feel it?). I hope you like my writing.

This is the start of term 4 and we have been working hard. For literacy we have written explanations. I found it hard writing my topic about Water issues. I think next time I could improve my punctuation. We also started back up "Word Work" Although my buddy , Jayden was away for 3 of the days and I couldn't do it by myself, but anyway.

As this is the last week of term we still did: Literacy, Numeracy, Reading etc. I found it hard writing my Sir Francis Drake writing because Jayden was only here for 3 days. I found it easy doing my Finding Literacy Elements slide.

Literacy has been really good this week with all of my Follow ups done. I fund it hard with 3 days to do all my follow ups but anyway. I found it easy writing my Explanation Burger as so I found it easy doing my Word Cloud. I chose to do the BFG and I really liked doing the Word Cloud.
