Summer Learning Journey 2017- Day 1

Day 1
On day one we had to write down 3 facts about Maui.

  • Maui was a fisherman who dragged up a giant fish now known as the North Island. His Waka that he was in with his brothers is what is known as the South Island.
  • Maui fished up the North Island by hiding in the haul of his brother's waka. He used strong flax and a jawbone his ancestor gifted him. He also used blood from his nose to create bait to catch the fish.
  • Maui wasn't greedy like his brothers. He wanted to keep the fish for the people, as his grandmother Murirangawhenua had said. "Guard our fish, and I will return soon with our people. Unfortunately his brothers had already started chopping into the fish. Which are now the gullies and Mountains of the North Island.
Maui Legends that I have heard of:

  • Maui and the Sun
  • The fish of Maui

Shantytown Reflection

On Thursday we went to Shantytown. We focused  on Law & Order. We acted out a court case involving Jayne Simmons who stole a fog watch belonging to Owen Wright. I was the Arresting Officer. I had to answer questions about Jayne. We watched a movie about a tough life in the 18 hundreds. We had to investigate the stealing of gold. I had really fun. I hope to do this next year.
